ABOUT FIRST CHURCH…
As a contemporary community of faith, we are committed to reclaiming and renewing the ancient truths of the church in ways that meet the needs of real people in the 21st century. In fact, we like to say: “Our tradition is 2,000 years old but our thinking is not!”
• First Church was the very first church in Pittsfield, MA and we have been actively engaged in the welfare of the city since 1764. As a part of the United Church of Christ – the church of the Pilgrims in American history – we celebrate a long tradition of democracy, social justice, equal rights and progressive thinking.
• There is a deep connection between what we do on Sunday morning and our commitment to engage, change and heal the world. We understand that everyone – no matter what size, shape, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or spiritual background – has a place at Christ’s radically open table – so we practice radical hospitality.
We celebrate a “still speaking God” who is not finished with us yet and give thanks that Christ sets up no barriers to God’s love – so neither do we.
